On opening night of the C-N Theater's presentation of The Grapes of Wrath, a team of Bonner Scholars stood at the gates to collect canned food, hygiene items and financial donations as a way of assisting Appalachian Outreach.
"All in all, the drive collected over 250 cans of food and hygiene items," Americorp worker Andrew Lauber said.
The canned food and hygiene items were the currency of the evening being accepted as entrance to the opening night of Grapes of Wrath.
The turnout among students was one of the strongest of the weekend as expected and the heart of the students was shown with some students bringing multiple cans of food instead of the required one.
"I think the admissions that we had taken up for AO went very well," C-N Junior Channing McLain commented. "I'm glad to see Carson-Newman students get engaged in giving back to the community."
The donations gathered at The Grapes of Wrath premiere will directly support Appalachian Outreach and their ministry in Jefferson County.
