The campus ministry Special Projects Other Than Summer (S.P.O.T.S.) will be offering students the opportunity to serve Haiti and the Dominican Republic during a Mayterm trip.
"It is life-changing," Rev. Chad Morris, associate director of Campus Ministries, said. "Your eyes are opened by seeing new lifestyles and seeing what God can do. It's also a great way to meet fellow students and form new friendships."
Dr. Patsy Boyce, a faculty sponsor for the trip, encourages "just being there. It is essential to understanding. We can't put ourselves in their position. It changes the way you think about the world and your role in the world. We are the Lord's hands and feet. Our reason in being there is because we believe that's what God wants us to do."
Dr. Sue McBee, assistant professor of nursing, will also be sponsoring the trip. This will be her second trip to Haiti since the disastrous earthquake.
The trip's cost will be around $1,000. Applications are available both online and at the Campus Ministries house. A deadline has not been set for the applications. Everyone may apply, but the trip will be strictly medical; premed and nursing students will be given preference.
