Winter can be a drab, boring time of year; however, there are plenty of events in the surrounding area to fill any calendar. Jefferson City may not be the most fun-filled place, but Knoxville and Gatlinburg are not too much of a drive.
The Valerium is a fun concert venue with several upcoming events. Students can celebrate at the Bob Marley Birthday Bash on February 5 at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are seven dollars at the door with a college i.d. Cage the Elephant will be performing on February 18 at 8 o'clock. Tickets are $15 in advance and $17 at the door. The next day, February 19, Johnathan Tyler and the Northern Lights will visit the Valerium at 8 o'clock. Those tickets are ten dollars in advance and $12 at the door. To close out the month, The Used and Atreyu will be perfoming on
Another fun thing to try out in Knoxville is the Cereal Bar located downtown. They have all kinds of cereals including: Cocoa Puffs, Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruit Loops, and much more. They also have toppings like chocolate chips or strawberries for the extremely adventurous and many varieties of milk including organic. You can eat all the cereal you want for just $4.99 and enjoy the child-like atmosphere all while playing scrabble!
Ober Gatlingburg can also be a fun hangout for students who are adrenaline junkies and made for enduring physical activities in the snow. There are several activities ranging from under ten dollars to a more pricey $300 expense.
Scenic chairlifts are only $7 per person and indoor ice skating is available for $9 per person. Skiing season still has a few days left next weekend, but students can still visit the slopes for a $30 non-season charge. Students should also be prepared to pay for rentals that range from twenty to thirty dollars, as well as a returnable deposit on snowboard rentals.
