In an effort to provide better programs and services across a wide spectrum ,from education and counseling to ministries and safety, the Counseling Center wants to ask students, "What does it mean to live life Carson-Newman style?"
On Sept. 22 through the 25, every student will have the opportunity to answer that question in a confidential online survey. Counseling Services will send the survey link in an email to the student address list. The lifestyle survey should take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. It will involve a range of questions such as how students feel about their residence halls and if students feel valued as a person.
According to Brenda Sloan, one of Carson-Newman's counselors, Counseling Services will use the survey to determine student attitudes, trends, and beliefs. This survey will give students a chance to share how they feel about many aspects of Carson-Newman in a confidential manner. The Counseling Center hopes to see this information used campus-wide to provide students with programs that will better meet their needs.
"I really would like to stress to the students that it's completely confidential," insisted Jennifer Catlett, director of Counseling Services. Catlett emphasized that there will be no way for anyone to trace responses back to the student.
"The cool thing," according to Catlett, "is once the student completes the survey, they can print off the back page and get a coupon for 25% off in the bookstore." The potential rewards do not stop there, however. Any residence floor/wing, as designated by R.A., which has 100% participation, will get a free pizza party. Students can also take coupons they receive for completing the survey to the counseling center and to campus ministries. Campus Ministries plans to offer a free ballpoint pen to students who bring a coupon. However, both organizations will have drawings on Friday, Sept. 25.
In Counseling Services' drawing, nine students will win a gift card from among the following: three $100 Wal-Mart gift cards, a $25 Regal Movies gift card and five $10 eagle bucks gift cards. The grand prize from the Campus Ministries drawing will be a BCM t-shirt and a $25 Wal-Mart gift card.
The deadline for the drawings will be noon on Friday, Sept. 25.
