A new campus security initiative is underway and ready for students, faculty and staff to use. Carson-Newman College has partnered with e2campus to provide notification to faculty, staff and students in the event of an emergency. The service is optional but only takes a couple of minutes to sign up.

Director of Information Technology, Mark Seagroves said this system will only be used for emergency notification and will not be used for advertising. In the event of a campus emergency, a text message will be sent to your phone and an e-mail to the address you selected when you sign up.

The campus alerts will provide a way for C-N members to receive warnings in situations such as a lockdown or serious weather conditions or any other emergencies in the area.

So far the Campus Alerts have been successful with 650 students and employees signing up. Tim Rogers Director of Safety and Security states, "We are excited about the system but are concerned that several students have not checked their e-mail in "ages" so we are now setting up in the lounge area and posting signs to stop by and sign up." Safety and Security also set up in the lounge area to try and encourage students to sign up and use the service.

"We set up for one hour last week and signed up over 20 students," Tim Rogers said "they said that was the first time they had heard of it so obviously we have several students that may not be checking their mail."

Anyone who is associated with C-N Campus can sign up any time at: http://web.cn.edu/alert and follow the instructions.
