Tennis Teams Fall in SAC Tournament

Place 5 on All-Conference Teams

Three Eagles named to All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Team

Carson Newman placed three players on the All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Team. Senior Michael Swanson earned first team honors and Preston Sneed and Matt Stanley were named to second team.

Sneed was also named the Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete. The junior from Kingsport Tennessee had a 3.842 GPA as a Spanish and financial economics major. Sneed earned six SAC wins combined at #3 and #4 singles while garnering a win apiece at #1 doubles and #3 doubles

Stanley earned eight wins in singles competition for the Eagles in 2007 playing at #3 singles he also had 5 doubles wins at #1 doubles.

Swanson competed at #1 singles and had key wins at Wingate in doubles and singles, and a #2 doubles win over Tusculum. The South Atlantic Conference Team is selected by the head coaches in the conference.



Newberry 5 Carson-Newman 0



The Newberry Indians ended the Eagles season on Monday April 16th with a 5-0 victory in the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament. The third seeded Indians jumped out early to 3-0 lead sweeping the doubles matches. Then the Indians took the #5, and #6 singles matches to claim the 5-0 victory over the Eagles. For Senior Mike Swanson it was his final match of his college career. The Eagles have 6 players returning next year including 5 of 6 starters.



Two Lady Eagles named All-South Atlantic Conference Team



Carson Newman placed two players to the All-South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Team. Senior Tessa Caprio was named to First Team all SAC honors and Freshman Amanda Bartlett was named to the second team . Leading the Lady Eagles at #1 singles and doubles Caprio had four SAC wins at doubles and won a big match at Tusculum. Bartlett won six matches at #2 singles and earned seven SAC wins at #2 doubles during the 2007 season.

The Lady Eagles were defeated by the Lions in the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Tuesday April 17th by the score of 5-2. The Lions took an early 2-1 lead going into the singles play. Kellie Rimmer and Cassie Moulton won at #3 doubles 8-5, while at #2 doubles Amanda Bartlett and Emily Sorah had a 6-1 game slip away to lose a heartbreaking doubles match 6-8. At #1 doubles Tessa Caprio and Elizabeth Sneed battled but came up short, 9-8 (3) in the tiebreaker. At singles Bartlett was the only player to win her singles match as the Lions claimed the 5-2 to win over the Lady Eagles. Just like the men the Lady Eagles will return 5 of the 6 starters and 6 out of the 7 players next year.
