Diamond Eagles Drop Series to Tusculum

Tusculum (23-10, 9-5) took two of the three games over the Eagles (19-10, 8-3) in the South Atlantic Conference series.
Brandon Burchfield led the Eagles with his 3-for-4 effort, while Langdon Potts and Derek Long tallied two hits apiece. Carson-Newman got on the board first in the third inning as Burchfield singled and scored on Potts' second triple of the year. Tusculum tied the contest in the top of the fourth as Paul Finger drew a one-out walk and eventually scored on Eric Barclay's sacrifice fly. The lead was short-lived as C-N answered with a run in the bottom of the inning as the Eagles opened the frame with three consecutive singles, including Mills Rogers' base hit to score Jason Gray. After Tusculum tied the game again with a run in the sixth, the Pioneers took its first lead of the day with two runs in the seventh, thanks to Rosa's home run with Rivera aboard. C-N wouldn't go away as the Eagles plated a run in the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game at 4-4. In the seventh, Carson-Newman mounted a two-out rally as the Eagles posted three straight hits, including Potts' run-scoring single. C-N tied the game in the eighth on Rogers' hit. With the scored tied at 4-4, Porter led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Wilson's two-out single to give TC a 5-4 lead. Brandon Tuten retired the Eagles in order in the bottom of the 12th to post the win. C-N reliever Jeremy Yoder (0-1) suffered the loss.
