The Carson-Newman basketball team broke a two-game losing streak Monday night with a win over Belmont Abbey 82-70. The Eagles got off to a 17-5 lead in the first half capped off by an Andy Tipton three pointer. Carson-Newman got out to an 18 point lead with 5:49 left in the half. The Crusaders made a late surge however cutting the lead to fourteen at the half. In the second half Belmont Abbey pulled to within one with 7:52 left in the game. In the final stretch of the game Tipton and Kente Hart combined to hit twelve of twelve free throws to ice the game for Carson-Newman. Tipton's 22 points led all scorers. The Eagles improved their record to 2-2.
