Most of us are thinking about hot chocolate, cramming for exams, and going home for Christmas break at this time of year. That last thing on our mind is next summer. But, maybe it should be. Now is the time to start planning for your summer job or internship.
If you want to have a successful summer experience, some employers have deadlines as early as mid January. The earlier you start the process, the better chance you have at possibly landing the job that fits your needs best.
There are many resources here on campus to help find the perfect summer job or internship in a specific field. Faculty, staff and friends may have a connection that is ideal to your interests. Carson Newman's Career Services is also available to you to provide directories full of ideas, announcements, and job listings. You can reach them at 3567 or visit their offices behind the cafeteria.
Take advantage of any contact you may have and allow yourself to network through people that you had never thought of before and you will find yourself in a realm of possibilities.
Take action and apply to jobs you find because even if it is short term or volunteer work, employers take note of basic skills and the interest you contribute to.
Working in the summer during college is a chance for you to explore and be creative, so try new things and be persistent. Think success as 2007 is fast approaching, and start hunting for your summer job now.
