Dedication to Teaching, Service Pays Off for Karr

"One of the first things you may notice about him is that he is accident prone. As a matter of fact, he was knocked unconscious as a six year old when he fell from a tree. The accident might explain the choice to go into college teaching," said Provost Kina Mallord.

Student Leaders Honored

The Student Leadership Banquet, hosted by Student Affairs was held on April 16th, 2009 at Calhoun's on the River in Knoxville, honoring those who have contributed to the college throughout the year. Student Affairs gave several awards. The Student Organization President award went to Kevin Cline of Baptist Collegiate Ministries, Justin Quinn of Student Ambassador Association, Elizabeth Cook of the Eagle Production Company and Mandy Branch of the Student Government Association.

Algernon Sydney Sullivan Awards Announced

It would take too long to list all the accomplishments senior Olivia Ellis has achieved and she has recently added one more to the list - The Algernon Sydney Sullivan award. The Algernon Sydney Sullivan award is considered one of the highest honors given by Carson-Newman.

Martin Honored With Community Service Award

In August, Billy Ray Martin will have been working on Carson-Newman's campus for twenty one years. Carson-Newman proudly awarded Martin with the College Community Service Award at the spring Honors Convocation. Not only does Billy serve this school, but he is a servant in his own church as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Mortar Board Initiates New Members

Mortar Board recently selected new members for the upcoming year. New members and their parents were honored during an initiation ceremony on March 27 at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City with a banquet following at the Morristown Country Club. The selected seniors for the 2009-2010 school year are: William Trentham, Cara Hawkins, Bethany Wells, Jack Harvie, Okitta Elliott (Summer), Joshua Carpenter, Benjamin Miesel, Philip Buck, Lindy Mason, Jacqueline Dutton, Kaysi Knight, Gillian James, Meredith Haynes, Allie Jenkins, Molly Brummett, Kari Parsons, Brianne Coon, Andrew Glibbery, Amanda Branch, Sarah Elizabeth Cook, Amy Aycock, Brianna Rector, Brooke Lane, Destry Cloud, Danielle Schlafer, and Kimberly Grace.

Commencement Activities Announced

The end of the semester marks a time when seniors at Carson-Newman are gearing up for graduation and the future career ahead of them. It is a time of nerves, excitement, and stress as the last assignments are rolling in before the big ceremony. This year, Carson-Newman featured commencement speaker will be James A.

Ingalls Tapped to Lead SGA for '09-'10

The results are in! Student Government Association elections were held last week and the winners for next year's group have been announced. Among new positions, a new student body president has been elected for the upcoming year. Philip Cable and Andrew Ingalls were the two candidates for this position, with Ingalls being selected by the student body as the upcoming president of SGA.
