Fall Break Trips Teach Lessons, Touch Lives

While most of the C-N campus was heading towards home and other popular fall break locations on Oct. 19, 44 students loaded up on vans with plans to "serve and help others." This year's Fall S.P.O.T.S. (Special Projects Other Than Summer) trips took people to two locations.

A Cappella Gearing up for Holy Land

The Carson-Newman A Cappella Choir wraps up their fundraising efforts on Sunday, for their Christmas break mission trip to Israel and the Holy Lands. The trip will begin December 14th and conclude Christmas Day. While in Israel they will sing in Jerusalem, Nazareth, and Jordan.

757 Walks for Water

C-N students will "Walk for Water" Saturday, Nov. 3 at 10:00 a.m. to raise money for the "Well for Africa" project. The fundraising walkathon planned by 757, an on campus ministry, will walk 11 times around the Henderson block of streets (Branner Ave., South College Ave.

New Security Alert Plan Underway

A new campus security initiative is underway and ready for students, faculty and staff to use. Carson-Newman College has partnered with e2campus to provide notification to faculty, staff and students in the event of an emergency. The service is optional but only takes a couple of minutes to sign up.

Gen Ed Changes Approved

Carson-Newman faculty voted in favor of changes proposed to the Core Curriculum during October's faculty meeting. The changes, however, require other curriculum adjustments, as well as approval by discipline specific licensing agencies and will not take effect until the fall of 2008.

Bonner VIP Visits Campus

The "House of Atreus" Opens Doors

Fall Drama Production begins next week

The Carson-Newman Theater department will present "The House of Atreus." Nov. 9-10, 12-13 in Gentry Auditorium. "The House of Atreus" is a version of three plays by Aeschylus, "Agamemnon," "The Libation Bearers," and "The Furies." The play focuses on the tragic circumstances involving the House of Atreus.

"Mystery" teaches library skills

The lights go out and a blood-curdling scream resonates across the darkened halls of the library. The night has officially begun. The second Mystery in the Library took place on Friday October 26 in Stephens-Burnett Memorial Library. "We just want to get people into the library," says Kelli Williams, Reference and Instruction Librarian.

Social Issues subject of weeklong focus

Two social issues took center stage on campus the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 2. Hunger Awareness and Race Equality were the subject of special emphases.. Nearly 900 million people in the world go hungry and 15 million children in developing countries die each year.
